Birchbark Journal - Week of August 10, 2009
About Town:
Art In Your Eye festival was great and once again attracted very talented exhibitors. I am now the
proud owner of the 2009 poster designed (and signed for me) by Joe Gagnepain. Working as a
Batavia Mainstreet volunteer in the traffic control area was a study in human nature, Britta
McKenna and I kept our sense of humor and laughed alot.
Geneva Green Market - Thursdays 7am-1pm
BerkanaWay LLC has been awarded the Platinum Level Green Business Certification from the
Batavia Environmental Commission!
The award states: "A green business is a smart business, and a smart business runs a successful
operation while protecting the environment which sustains our economy." I just want to express
how grateful I am to live and work in a town with such creative and forward thinking
people/groups. As the small business representative in the pilot program, I hope this inspires
other business owners and landlords here in Batavia, as well as other towns, to participate in
building a strong environmentally sustainable business community.

Many of us suffer from what I've coined "Urban Skin Syndrome", the effects of which are seen as
dull, flaky complexion, rashes and irritations, breakouts, and premature signs of aging. This
Urban Skin Protection is formulated with Venuceane, a revolutionary product from natural deep-
sea bacteria that imparts protection from UV and air pollutants to the skin. Also contains active
amounts of other botanicals like Tamrind, Pumpkin seed, plus Niacinamide and Vitamin C to
protect and heal skin. Perfect to use daily under your choice of facial serum or day cream to add
an invisible shield of protection to your skin. Acceptable for all skin types, and also highly
recommended for men to use as part of their skin care routine. Available in 2oz mist bottle.

Health Notes:
Water Wisdom-Dehydration is one of the major underlying causes of much ill health in our society
today. Many health benefits can be realized through simply consuming the proper amount of pure
water each day. The rule of thumb that’s most popular is 8 “glasses” (64 ounces) per day.
There is a more scientific calculation though, that allows you to determine how much is right for
you. Take your bodyweight and divide it by 2. This will equal the number of ounces per day that
will best benefit you. For example: a 120# person’s consumption should be in the 60 ounce/day
(7.5 “glasses”) range. A 220# person however would realize maximum benefit from consuming
110 ounces/day (13.75 “glasses”)! This calculation applies to children as well. Liquids such as
coffee, juice and soda should not be factored into the daily totals, however if you consume a large
amount of juicy fresh fruits and vegetables, healthful soups like miso, or herbal tea like
"Femineral Herbal Infusion" then you can probably scale back on your water intake.
To insure you stay hydrated on the go, carry your water or tea with you in a Klean Kanteen, the
healthy BPA-free stainless steel container available in a variety of sizes available at the office or
through our online store .
Until Next Week~Yours In Health,
